PHOTO JOURNEY

2014-2019

What a year it has been! I have traveled this little island and taken thousands of photographs and I thought it would be apt to share some of these with you and  take the opportunity to thank everyone who has been a part of the journey thus far.

The main players!

Jamaican Ancestral Records really started to take shape in 2013 but was not launched until March 2014.  In the background we had Central Tech Solutions (Anthony Humber) dealing with all the techie issues and putting up with me changing my mind on a daily basis! Various people tested the site, others made suggestions and gave much needed feedback.

John John has been with our family for over 50 years and now travels with me on most of my grave hunting journeys.  He is my trusted able assistant and bodyguard.  Together we have created our own tricks of the trade which make the illegible, legible. [1940-29 Jul 2019] Walk Good!

SonyaSonya  joins us on some of  trips, takes photographs  and  helps to transcribe the information.

KathKath is my dear friend, living all the way in the UK.  She has transcribed a fair chunk of the information.

Many thanks to them and to a host of others who prefer to remain nameless and many friends here in JA (you all know who you are) and even those who have great fun in taking the ‘mick’ (“So Hann, which duppy yu chase dis week?”)

My appreciation also to the people who have told me where to find cemeteries, others who have accompanied me there and my Mum who gave me the book Amen, by Jacqueline Young at the commencement of this journey.  The information therein was invaluable.

And most of all, to you the visitor and those that have purchased tombstone images, thank you and keep coming back!

Thank you ALL for being a part of this journey!

So unto some of my photographs and in no particular order …

  2. I am currently putting certain things in place so that I can re-commence visiting locations. This won’t happen until early next year.

    Greetings,

As usual, I am being led by spirit and so here I am! As a descendant of two Jamaican born parents, I have been on a long quest to find out as much as possible about my maternal and paternal grandparents ( as I have never met them) as well as my great grand parents. Something keeps leading me to seek and keep digging! Hopefully someone here can assist me. I do have first and last names.

    Thank you

Buck up on your site. So rich and informative. Sad to see that many of these sites weren’t restored and operational. We have lost so much history. Thank you for sharing. I will share the site with families and friends. I’m intrigued by the cemeteries.

Happy New Year 2025! Today, while performing research on my family, this website appeared. To my delight, it led me to the page listing those buried within the cemetery of St Paul’s Anglican Church in Chapleton. Immediately, I was able to find my great grandmother’s name listed, Mrs. Grace Ann McLeod. It brought back such pleasant memories of my mother telling us stories, as elders have shared with her, about the wonderful singing talent of my relatives, including my grandfather’s (Ellis) remarkable voice and participation in the choir at St. Paul’s.

Thank you to everyone that participated (and still participates) in the coordination of this website, including tasks related to photography, research, recording and much more. My maternal relatives were staunch Anglicans with strong faith, church affiliations, great dedication to family and education. Thereby, during my global visits, I’ve been accompanied to the church “by the clock in town” with older relatives that have reminded us (siblings too) of great grandma’s resting place.

Sometime this year, I would like to visit St. Paul’s and view my great grandma’s grave. May this New Year be filled with greater blessings of peace & love for the church, parishioners and community. Thanks, again!
